Top site Tony...
I,m putting in a 24 square mtr patio (ripping up the old one ) but i,m a bit reluctant as to how to go about laying around the two manholes, one is the large type ,the other is a smaller waste type cover(about 8ins)
Any tips?

If you've still got any questions, I'm back 'on the job' again now after my little holiday in the cardiac unit of Wythenshawe Hozzy. :)

Hello again Tony.
just a quick question regarding the above project.
The old "flags" that I am ripping up on my patio , I will be useing for a shed base down the side of the house (18ft by 8ft shed ,to get away from the wife & kids ha,ha ) anyway the ground seems prety even, now after flattening out the bumps in the grass. Do you recommend taking up the remaining turf (about half left) or would it be o.k to go ahead and lay the flags (with the grit sand/cement mix ) as the ground seems prety solid to me.
The "flags I will be useing for the shed base are the big 3by2..4inch thick "corpy flags" as their known in liverpool
any thoughts welcome...
Mark..

You should take up the turf before laying the flags. If you lay them on top of turf, it decomposes over time, the flags settle and your shed will develop a list or even a wobble!
Scutch off the turf to about 50mm depth, then lay the flags on 35-50mm of a 10:1 mix of Mersey Grit and cement. An 18' x 8' shed is, in metric, about 5.5m x 2.4m, so you've just over 13 m². If you keep the bedding nearer 35mm than 50mm, then you should be able to do the lot with just one tonne of Mersey Grit and 4 x 25kg bags of cement, plus a couple of bags of building sand and one bag of cement for the pointing, if you're bothering. :)
