Laying crushed slate on concrete..? - Sub base for existing driveway.

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi,

My existing driveway is old concrete which is looking tired, with weeds sprouting through etc etc.

I understand there is a sub base required normally, such as hardcore then sand. Could i just put a layer of sand over existing concrete driveway then cover with weed membrane then put my slate on?

I dont want to dig up my driveway and contractors are to expensive, I know it may not be ideal but is it ok?

Many Thanks
John
