Hello all, we have been requested to relay some granite setts and repoint all of the slope in lime mortar with a raised profile (the setts are well worn and slippy and it is hoped the raised mortar will stop slipping). The slope will be quickly trafficked (high footfall and bicycles). My questions are: Is this the right application for lime mortar? Is this the wrong time of year to do this? How long should the area be cordoned off to allow for setting?

Most defintely NOT! Far too soft and completely inappropriate.

There is no right time. It's a silly idea.

Years. Decades, probably!
Lime mortar is NOT suitable for use as a jointing medium for paving. It has possible uses as a bedding mortar, and it's invaluable in heritage masonry, but it never lasts more than a copup-le of seasons when used to joint paving unless it is seriously beefed-up with cement or a stengthening agent.....which sort of defeats the object of using lime in the first place!
