Can you use a dead blow hammer to lay paving slabs or would it likely break them?

been using one for years, never use rubber mallet they bounce to much,
3lb dead blow everytime MSH :)

use both but a dead plow tends to mark more and break more and if you hit your hand boy does it hurt
