I'm looking to buy a new Van for work, and I've been looking for a while, no rush, just looking.
I currrently Drive a T280 mwb Transit, all signed up but an 02 plate, and we also use a LDV Crew cab Tipper, same age ,but looks like the Taliban have launched a few RPG's at it.
I'm moving yards, after 6 break ins in the last 6 months, and to get nearer to home, but my new lock up has quite a narrow entrance, and will be a bit hairy in the LDV. My other problem is me old man who normally drives the LdV wants to retire and me labourer just got banned for no Insurance(donut).
So I want to sell both vans and get one all purpose.
Now I know this sounds like an easy option, just get a newer version ovf the LDV, but Parkings tight up my road and as I'll be using it to work in and do quotes etc, I need something that looks decent, carries what I need and ain't that massive.
I've thought about a trailer but they ain't always practical, so at the moment I'm torn between a crewcab Transit or such like, or I've got me eyes on a neat little VW crew cab tipper, 07 plate. My only concern is carrying all the regular gear we use in a crew cab just wrecks your seats and means you end up with a tool box on the back (not a problem). Any thoughts?

cabstars are narrow and have a good turning circle mick
especially compared to transits
transits are much more comfortable
cabstar with a toolbox has worked for us
I can get breaker,drill ,stihl,small grinder and all my hand tools in the box
so they keep dry and safe

most crew cabs, the bench is easily removed or on some ive seen folds out the way, we used to have a renault master crew cab that did it and we blacked out the back windows

I think the Transit and such, look ugly, a bit style over content I know, but it's my main vehicle, I haven't got the luxury of another apart from the wifes old Almera. I'd looked at the Cabstar, and if I could get hold of something with one of those shuttered tool boxes instead of the Crew cab I'd go for it. My sensible head is saying get a Transit/Iveco or such like and my Daft side is saying go for the VW, cos it's Army Green, and I could almost persuade the missus we could use it for camping(and not scare the site owner into thinking we're Travellers).

the cabstar crew cab (which i have ) was the only one i looked at that you could actually take the seats out. They do in fact fold up out the way, but as i never use them, i just unbolted them and removed them all together, along with the rear heater and the seatbelts.
The vauxhall, vw and mitsubishi all had a fixed metal skirt under the seats that could not be removed
Why not get some metal boxes fitted to the under side too , which i did on mine??
they also make bolt on toolboxes for the rear

I couldn't reccommend the VW Crafter - I guess that is what you are talking about, tipper-wise?
My mate bought one and it's been a horror story and is heavy on fuel.

No Dave, it's actually a VW Transporter tipper, with a crew cab, like the type all the Surfers buy when they can't afford an old camper. I'd thought of that Dan, are they expensive mate?

I'd thought of that Dan, are they expensive mate?
have to dig out the invoice, i seem to remember i gave the guy the measurements, told him i wanted a lock on each of them, and he made four brackets for me to mount them on, and i think i paid £220 inc delivery. I thought that was a good price.

This vw vans are brilliant, i borrowed a single cab transporter tipper, very rare back then and was coachbuilt. Breat motor. If i had the money i would love one. Remove rear seats of a crew cab and have 3 seats in front

cant help thinking you pay more for the name with a VW saying that id love a transporter myself want a new van myself and as much as rust worries me i might go for a transit how reliable has it been for you ?

Bear in mind the vw will hold its value way better than most other vans on the market. Compare a second hamd transporter to a second hamd transit, the difference is maybe 25% on same age and milage
