Slab vaccum lifter

got a 600 slab,lift and re-lay job starting after the hols.

was planning on buying one of these, anyone know the limitations in using this tool with used slabs?

Not great on heavily riven stuff but brilliant on large stone and concrete flags bloody pricey though if it's just for one job I'd hire it. If you do buy one be careful not to damage the rubber sole they cost a fortune to replace. A cheaper option is to use the kerblifter they lift large flags really well.

Had mine ten years going strong they will lift what two men can I allways wet slab and pad every time as Pablo says be carefully on pad hire one

I brought one in the end, and al-vac, which i use with the digger
Hired a probst one from hss rip off. It was like the one above, the only thing we discovered, is that we had to wet the slab first to get it to work, but it was a great piece of kit.

It's the quality of the suction pad on the head that's critical. Once they start to lose their flexibility, they become more and more useless.

Also, look for good battery life and a model that will take a trickle charge over dinnertime is always a good bet.

What size barface? Could you not use a scissor grab?

600 by 600 but we have to do a slab on edge 100mm upstand which makes life incredibly difficult, we have done enough of them now but its always a PITA compared to finish flush to edgings

You could use the Kerb lifter gear which have quite a fine end lip which creates a 6mm joint, but it should be easy enough to nudge over the flags once they are on the bed and create the specified joint width.

I strongly suspect those photies hail from Germany - look at the size of the kerbs!
