Right so its finally time for us to buy a saw as I do not want to cut anything with a dry grinder this year.
So stihl seems to be the way, 400 or 410? Have hired 400 before and it seemed ok but the 410 looks a little better?
Used ones be a good buy or save a little more and buy a new one?

I have 2 410's and they're feckin nightmares neither is more than a year old and both are giving me the same hassle. They're becoming hard to start easily flooded and the mechanism for turning the motor when you pull the rip cord keeps seizing. They've been well looked after and serviced recently and the fuel is perfect every time they're just not as well made as the previous models. I've had huskies before that and I'll be going back over to them they're easier to use more eronomic given that your hands aren't so close together the throttle doesn't cause hand fatigue on long cuts and they're easier started and more simple all round and cheaper.

410 if budget allows or 400, im back on the 400 after 410 was stolen, although 400 is rock solid 410 has had some problems with filters etc
heard very good things about the husqavana saws but not used one

stihl all the way
400s are getting old now,although great saws ,they have a life span we just had a new piston etc in one of ours and cost 200 quid
in retrospect should have just bought a 410
i would go new,as you never know what mix someone else has been running it on
we use a dedicated 5 litre can,which we add 100ml of stihl 2 stroke oil to ,when it is filled with exactly 5 litres
cures problems before they start

so new and go 410 you guys think? Best oil to mix with?

stilh sell oil in a squeeze bottle with a 100ml reservoir at the top like those plasticers, you squeeze it fill the 100ml then add it to your petrol we have a few cans on the go mix is always important, but always better to have more oil than less. yes smokes more but less chance of scouring a piston,
never leave brick layers with a neat petrol can for mixer and a mix can for saw they'll get them the wrong way rd and kill your saw and make your mixer smoke like a chimney haha

I'm in same boat with my 410 and it is doing my box in, temperamental f*cking thing.
As for oil, I just bought a 25L container of 2 stroke, should last me a lifetime. I get oil cheap by the pallet load because I sell it on.

Yep, I'd go for a 400 too, I run five of the buggers and they are asked to cut a wide variety of materials from tarmac to plastic, all good. Not had a failure for aslong as I can recall.

id try and buy a serviced 400 off a local hire shop if you can be the best way rather than a stolen one off ebay lol

I have 2 410's bought over the past two years, never had a problem and they both run sweet as a nut, fully cleaned after every job, airline round the whole thing, airline the air filter, i have heard of lots of folk having problems with them....saying that i had a ts400 before and it was a fecking nightmare lol
Id go for brand new 410, the moment any problems start (if they ever do) go straight back to the dealer

you could lease on from hilti, not sure of the costs though.
