is it the bit mac you are thinking of recycling bobbi?
luton council went on a big green purge a few years back and rather than dig up and relay new bit mac they had a big yoke with like gas burners under it,to melt the existing bit mac and then rake and compact
my mate was doing it and said it was financial disaster as the amount of gas used far exceeded any savings
a lot of the planings end up at the allotments for use as paths

thats a three way screener dan that comes from canada, and has a 9hp kubota diesel that runs it.
However, TCP(who imported it) added a hopper, and conveyor, and the conveyor is electric so they have mounted a genny on the side.
Its a good machine, but by the time you have set up all that stuff, it must be expensive

try these guys. I have hired one of these for my back garden, and it was superb. you can get a petrol one with a built in conveyor, but not sure about cost

recyling is the way forward, but can the wee guy make/save any money from it.more research needed
our current "system" is on a typical new road/driveway - excavate and load onto tipper truck and transport back to yard and pile high. then when the pile gets too big find farmer/developer etc with large hole in ground and transport to there.
the new system would be transport to pile, process out good stuff, get rid unusable and sell/use ourselves good for sub base.

Thats just what we do with out excavated hardcore. It's not cheap to do so, but very convenient. People seem to think that as we have huge stockpiles of road planings and recycled subase, it must be cheap and we will sell to all and sundry.bobbi o wrote:the new system would be transport to pile, process out good stuff, get rid unusable and sell/use ourselves good for sub base.
Trouble is, we tend to bring back for more to our yard than we ship out! Currently got circa 2000 tonnes heaped up for recycling/screening!

we've got a sepa licence for carrying waste, they seem to be ok if you stockpile it for re-use,as long as it doesnt have any nasties in it.
i was looking at a nice wee job today with about 100sq.m of slabs, all to be ripped up,sub-base and tarred. i was thinking wouldnt it be handy to have a tcp crusher and re-use all these nice slabs for the base, then again wouldnt it be easier just to get the 3cx in,haul it to the pile and bring back type 1. of course i'll price it on the latter.
i just cant see any cost savings in recycling at the moment, nevermind getting a return on the kit you need to buy.

No, but as it all for our own reuse, as Bobbi says, they seem OK with it.DNgroundworks wrote:And are you a registered transfer station Dave?

trommels ok but you really need to be running a crusher, a sreener and a trommel to be full transfer station plus 2 20 tonners and a loader to make it pay...
the big trommels are about £40k so thats a hell of a lot of recycling
can pick up older used units for about 5-10k for soil only, thought about it for us with all our arisings but to much hassle as they dont like clay or othe rnasties in the stuff which is no good really rd here
