I have a 40' shipping container sitting in my yard that weighs about 30 tonne (ie, full of stuff) that needs to go to Africa.

It has been raining so much that in my Jeep Cherokee I needed to use 4x4 to get out of the place today.

I anticipate that either a sideloader will come to collect the container or I will hire a crane to lift the container on to the truck. But with my ground so bogged out, the haulier will struggle to gain traction and will be stuck with a 30+ ton trailer to get out... (most likely he will refuse to take it).

I was thinking of quickly laying 3 or 4 inches of concrete as a hardstanding where the tractor unit will reverse on to or laying some asphalt. I don't mind if the concrete(/asphalt) is all broken afterwards, but I am sure there are some much cheaper solutions....

I can't see pea shingle or grit sand sorting it...

Is there a matting of some kind I can hire?

I don't now much about HGV's so any of you who know about helping get an artic out of a boggy field, I would appreciate your advice.

Cheers...

Judging by Giles latest photies, he's got to be the fella to help here.
Just pulled our oil delivery lorry out of the mud - (only just) but that was only because I could keep our tractor's wheels on the hard standing.
(I did say that reversing onto the grass was bad idea)

Yes Ted, you could hire a couple of bog mats. They do them in timber, hdpe etc; Or maybe some sleepers, then you can re-use them if need be.

what id do find a local conctrator with either a big dozer(d6) or big tractor(150hp+) but dozer better, drag the box to the main road. this will make a mess and but they do a good job of plaining dirt roads. we sit them on two or three nothced sleepers like ski's so they dont dig in at the front. thats the cheapest.

second option find a local demo contractor, tell him he can tip his cleanish hardcore waste for free and get a guy to level it out and consolidate it with a machine, you'll need 200mm for a big hiab artic. you might need to blind it with a few loads of crusher run.

but important to dig out to good ground before you lay it down, and not have it sat here getting wet.

we've got 30 20 ton loads of hardcore coming next week for a road through his costing us nothing, we'll use it as road base then top off with stone when we are done.
