Hi,
Self-built own extension using Ifor tipper & defender 90. Now think its a bit too much kit on the drive but still do the odd bit of gardening so need to take mower, chainsaw, hedge-trimmer, etc. And then may need a little retaining wall so ability to grab 1/2 ton sand and 3 or 4 bags of dust etc all helps.
So am thinking double truck cab and wondered what you all think and where I could be pointed???
So far Mazda B2500 (or equivalent Ford Ranger) and Mit L200 seem highly rated with the Nissan model seemingly getting a pasting for reliability, etc.
Any help to an out and out amateur gratefully received.......

Well i have the D40 nissan navara aventura, i think its good, but when i bought it it had many problems which are now fixed 
the l200 can tow more than a navara and ford ranger more than l200, but in my opinion out of all the trucks availble the nissan is the best, for reliabilty etc it was the old model navara thats was very unreliable.
what are you looking to spend?

Self Building Single Storey Extension.
Or realistically digging foundations/footings myself and then using tradesmen as I project manage!
for project manage ,read get in the way :;):
nissan cabstar has proved very reliable for me
no mechanical problems whatsoever in 3.5 years

I have had my navara 2 years double cab aventura, clutch went at 72k miles but i tow heavy weights around 3 ton machines etc. Dads got the king cab one, his clutch went at 22k but got changed under warranty.
Our opinion the nissans are by far the best all rd trucks but the aventura and outlaws more car like if you have only one vehicle.
Had the l200 warrior before, turbo blew at 35k 2500 pound fix. Back leaf springs snapped after putting a breaker off a 13 tonner in it oops haha
Got a Toyota invincible as well, it's ok load bed higher than the navara but a good engine in it and plenty of power.
Ranger are cheap not seen Mazda but vw bringing a pickup out looks nice.

the mazda and ford are the wors of the bunch i'm afraid. Steer clear.
I concur with LLL . Had cabstars since 1993 (on my 5th one now) and never gone wrong to date. (although they are not 4wd, they do tow 3.5t)

yeah cabstar ok but the op asked for 4x4 pickup its hard to park cabstar in tesco etc, cant really use it as a car as well as the op is not full time tradesman
you can get a cabstar 4x4 (well might be aftermarket kit)

you are right, the op did ask for a 4x4. Personally the new navara seems to be the right choice.

why not get a transit tipper and sell it when your done or just sell the house you built and buy the unimog. lol ??? :p

We run a Ford Ranger. I hate driving it, wont move off in any gear other than first, but only has about 10 revs before its screaming for a gear change.
That and the fact it has the turning circle of a small aircraft carrier

Well.............I'd be quite happy with either of the two suggestions by Mr GB_Groundworks!! Flippin AWESOME looking bits of kit. Big BUT but have the small problem of lack of required budget plus a spoilsport of a wife....
Onto the cabstar - have always liked them when I've seen them but they are for a contractor and/or full timer.
I'm basically a glorified house-husband but like doing the occasional bit for friends/family at cost plus a drink so am not in competition with any of you guys on here!!
Want a 4*4 pickup;
1) 4*4 as go skiing twice a year but to save costs I stay a few miles from the slopes and drive into resort each day (only way I can afford to go twice - instead of £2k+ p/wk slopeside I can get accom for £600-700 p/wk!!!) and I can't be arsed chaining up. PLUS what fun I had in the defender 90 with last year's snow back here in UK!!
2) need double cab so can use it as a "car" with Tesco run, etc and to transport kids and their bikes and to take dogs out
3) love defender but its hard work thru the gears, etc
4) want the ability to throw/load heavier items such as mower (without having to part-dismantle it!), ton bag of sand, etc
Was hoping to spend £7-8k, possibly £10k max

NBB looked at mazda as read on some web searches their engines are indestructible??
