Just been reading that the Cabstar has a gross train weight of 7000kg does this mean you can tow a 3 ton machine on a 3 ton plant trailer?

half way down, there is a table shows towing weights the bigger ones have a 3500kg towing limit.
but our 3 ton kobota on plant trailer is more like 4.2 tons gross weight with the trailer and buckets.
we used to have a cabstar and even with our big man 7.5 tonner if you have no weight in the back loose traction and with a really heavy trailer can fish tail under braking. we move our 3 tonner now behind tractor, or on the back of the 7.5 tonner. used to tow it with my navara but was to heavy to do legally and sensibly.
defender 90 has a 3.5 ton towing capacity so a 2.5 toner and trialer should be ok.
i saw that advert for the cabstar looked impressive, 1.5 ton load bed and they are a nice vehicle.

ye its in the plant trader - the advert, just got me thinking, but like you say with buckets and trailer its going to be overloaded.
Ive also been reading that the tow vehicle has to be heavier than whatever it is your towing (so the tails not wagging the dog sorta thing) so you would have to the load the tow vehicle up to is gross to be leagal?
What are people's thoughts on tippers? which are best? im sick of the normal box van, can be a pain in the arse when you just need an extra half ton of mot!

yeah the gross weight of the trailer can't exceed the towing vehicle,
but other than that the cabstar looks a good tub, we used to run one but didn't get used that much between the navs and the man.
is yours a transit 1 ton tipper?

Never ceases to amaze me the amount of overloaded [towing] vehicles we see on our roads, usually dragging a mini-digger behind.
But thats not to say we'll lump 13t of tarmac onto the back of a 6.8t payload wagon tommorrow (off the road, of course!)

we have had a cabstar for 2 years and they seem pretty robust, few cosmetic bits broken, but mechanically 100%
my only gripe is it seems heavy on fuel,
but maybe thats just me
costs about 35p a mile in diesel to run

What do people think of the transit or iveco tippers?
