Hi,
Can anyone advise what machine I need to hire??!!
Have seen them before - basically my garden drainage at top end is pretty crap as I know its clay for approx 2m down. Have dug a rough soakaway at one end which deals with problem i.e. used a mini-digger to go 2m down through clay cap and backfilled it with some hardcore and pea shingle and topped last .5m with decent topsoil. Re-turfed and it works a treat.
Don't really want to dig another 2-3 soakaways as big garden and as I've already dug foundations and used 3 full size grab lorries and 20 (yep twenty no) skips to get rid of old extension and the masses of earth, etc.
Cut to chase; have read up about the mini/micro diggers with an augur attachment - some of them apparently can go up to 8m deep and are approx 200mm wide hole. So my plan is to drill say 3m deep as I know clay goes down 2m deep and backfill with pea shingle about 10 holes. I reckon this will be as effective and easier than a french drain?
But when I search for machine on web or from plant hire co's what is/are the machines actually called???

to go down 8m you would need a mini cfa piling rig,which you would not hire unless your a piling man ,you would be hard pushed to find anything to auger 3m on a small machine,a 3m flight on a machine auger is slim an extension rod is possible but your looking at a 20t machine if you could find one, you would not use pea shingle in a soakaway of that design 40mm would be the smallest stone usable it will clog up using pea shingle hope this helps mark :;):

damm & blast!!

twos the architect who suggested it! will go back to him and demand he comes back with a name & number

he reckoned there is a micro digger that can augur 200mm wide hole up to 8m deep if necessary ( i only need/want 3m or even 2.5m)

sad thing is I need it as a micro digger as extension about to go up to wall plate soon and that leaves side access round other side of the house - a paltry .8m wide

i like the look of that little pilling rig, looks a good bit good bit of kit.

just got back from a weekend in amsterdam and saw a lot of mini pilling rigs working in houses think they have a lot of subsidence there. all the canals and water i guess.
