Yes its good stuff. but last time we had to bring down two temp crane bases that where up on stilts. because of the base frame plus re bar cage, each one took three weeks because too hard to drill for powder. in the end peckers on 2 360s had to finish them off.

I heard someone talking about this stuff for breaking up an old runway. In the end, I'm not sure why they went for the machine-mounted pecker: could it have been cost?

Funny one of the reasons I posted was I couldn't find anywhere on the net where you could buy it. Then I got sidetracked with suggestion of filling the drill holes with water and packing with dry ice...And dry ice is pretty pricey!
Anyway that put "paid" to the matter for me at least. I'm just laying on top.

Tony runways use P Q concrete ( pavement quality ) and don't have reinforcing because they need to be flexible i would reckon a pecker to be faster and cheaper. with that gear you have to drill lots of holes then place the stuff and wait for it to work. its mostly used where noise has to be kept to a minimum, or vibration would pose a problem.

I've seen this used here off and on -- best testimonial I saw about it was a friend who used it to bust up his huge concrete patio to lay pavers. He poured the stuff into the holes, covered it with plastic, and went to the beach with his family.
When they came back the next day, all he had to do was pick up the pieces. Lots easier than a jackhammer!
There's another one that shoots small loads of the stuff using a pneumatic nailer (so not even a hole to drill!), but I can't remember the name.

on a patio it may be viable. But on runways and slabs that are 300 + , slabs that have re-bar that knacker the drill bits then a pecker is best. Holes have to be drilled so there is the problem with HAVS also. you are talking thousands of metres on large construction sites. imagine 10 metres wide 20 metres long. Would be some drilling eh? ???
