Drill small hole in sandstone

Hi all - sorry for such an "amateur" question - I have had a good look around but can't find a definitive answer to this on the site.

I've had a sandstone patio laid and unfortunately I forgot to ask for a single hole to be cut into it for a doorstop to slide into. The hold only need be about an inch square and half an inch deep.

Rather than hassle the guy to come back for such a trivial job, is there an easy way for me to make such a hole by drilling or another method, or will that potentially shatter the stone? If so, what's the best drillbit and technique to use?

I have done this and it is easy, with an SDS drill. An ordinary hammer drill will struggle. I have yet to Shatter or break a slab

Just start of by drilling a 12mm hole, then go up to the 25mm.

You can hire the drill and bits from any tool hire shop if required.

or if its a upvc door you can get restrainers fitted to the doors
stops the doors from banging back against the walls and flapping in the wind

Thanks chaps - I shall look out an SDS drill.

It's actually a hole to keep the doors shut rather than open. They are padlocked and they open in the middle and with nothing bolting them to the ground they rattle in the wind and a concerted lean on them at the weak point will break them open fairly easily.

i would try a hammer drill first it will take longer but if you already have one might as well use it

just start small eg 6mm 10mm 16mm 25mm
