Hi all,

I'm installing some paving stones for my sister and it's my first unassisted job. I have a question I can't seem to find the answer for. It's going to be a driveway and we'll be laying an edge course in concrete to act as edge restraints. Planning to do a 90 degree herringbone pattern.

Now the question...

I've heard that I should dial in the height of the pavers to be "slightly" proud relative to the final height I want the drive to be. The reasoning I was told, was so that when I do a final tamping of the sand covered pavers, they will sink down into the sand bedding "slightly". So the question is what is "slightly"?

How much higher than my final desired grade should I have the pavers at before the final tamping? Is this even required since the surface sand will sink in an fill the joints during final tamping? Please help!

Thanks in advance for your insights.
