Hi,

I currently have a block paved driveway. We've just had our kerbs dropped and intend on "moving" the driveway.

I would like to recycle as much as possible and intend on the turning the blocks around as the underside looks brand new and to re-use these.

Would i be able to re-use use the sub base? If i was to dig it up and re-lay this in the new location. Obviously it will be a mix of sub base material and sand as i won't be able to separate it. Or will i need to order new bags of type 1?

You should relay the blocks the same way up either get them jet washed before hand or replace them.
You should be able to reuse the subbase although you may find that its either not decent stone or deep enough
You can also reuse the sand but you need to remove it as cleanly as possible and stack it out of the way but again you could find there's either too much or not enough. Biggest issue with reusing sand is stones being mixed up in it iys a pain in the ass having to remove lots of stone when screeding
For the above reasons is generally why all our jobs are minimum of 250mm dig that way can guarantee depth and quality of sand and stone
its very rare I have dug out an old driveway and found the subbase to be any good or deep enough

my thoughts exactly rxbren
it can be done but you are breaking your bollocks for a relatively small cost saving
new blocks can be had for around Â£12 a metre
and old ones should not be relaid upside down unless they are clays
