if its laid right i.e. compacted i have seen it work, but technically the answer is no
not enough interlock between the blocks

I did my mates years ago some in basketweave and some in stretcher bond and its still there, but make the client aware its not to BS

Basketweave nearly always shifts. Like one of those kiddies' tile puzzles, the blocks move as rows or courses and the pattern becomes distorted. As long as the c;lient is aware of this and signs a disclaimer exempting you from any liability or remedial work, they cane have any pattern they want!

we put flat top edgings all around it which helped

if its a *haunch * job it will almost certainly move

It never seems to matter what you use as an edge restraint.....!

My Dad did our drive in the house I grew up in about 25 years ago and it's still there now.
Don't get me wrong it's not like he only laid it yesterday but the lines are all still good and there's minimal subsidence.

basket weave has way to many straight lines for vehicular traffic
having said that if it is done right with proper restraint (not a fillet of muck behind the setts) it isnt the worst
but 90 and 45 deg herringbone are so much better why do anything different?

Tegular are bigger blocks and although it's laid stretcher bond none of the perks line up.
Not as strong as herringbone but much stronger than basket weave as it doesn't interlock at all.

I know what your saying Tony.
The reason my dad did it is because he used left over blocks, half were 60's half 80's.
Yes he was and still is a tight git.

I stand corrected Tony.
He wasn't that old.
I think I was about 10 when he laid it so that would have made him 30.
He is really bad. One example is he finds out exactly how many litres of fuel he needs to get him to work and back each day and puts that exact amount in so the van isn't carrying excess weight and costing him more in fuel.

lol I know blokes who only fill up at night because you get a minuscule bit more fuel at night when its colder :)

tight is probably the wrong word

careful would be right
