Hi,
I've got some of quotes for a block paving driveway to replace existing concrete driveway.
Most quotes have the standard digging of existing concrete and replacing with new sub base.
Interestingly two companies have said to leave the existing concrete as it is and they will put block paving on top of it. The reason being the concrete has been in place for 20+ years and has not sagged at all especially where the car has been parked.
The quotes have come in at around half the price of those who would replace the whole concrete!
What would you recommend?
Block paving on top of existing concrete drive - Block paving on top concrete

Hi eldy
this is the page sean refers to
http://www.pavingexpert.com/faq_layover01.htm
overlaying with blocks like this can only work if its a rigid construction
I.E. sand and cement under the blocks
bottom line I have seen it done but its not right
cheers LLL

Thanks for that info, very informative.
I've just had a quote come through from a contractor on the Marshalls Registere and his quote has come very close to the ones that are just offering to go over the concrete and also offered 10yr Marshalls guarantee. I havn't met him as he did the survey whilst I was at work but are Marshalls Registered installers allowed to go over the concrete, rather than digging, and offer a 10 year guarantee for this work?
