Well
Can any advise of any Paving Courses in Nirthern Ireland
I live in county Down area, was thinking I may have to head to England
But thought I would start a post in the off chance there is a course here and I just can't find it on google. Any advice welcome

No, there are no courses north or south. Tobermore used to do a sort of certification day and were talking about a permeable course but it came to nothing. Greenmount college do a hardlandscaping Module but it's based on the Tommy Walsh handbook and recommends spot bedding etc. Complete waste of time and I never employ anyone who's done it on that strength alone.

I called the people at CSCS to get my card renewed a few weeks ago. I only have an operatives card so have to re sit the exam rather than just getting the card renewed.
It's a bit silly as I have over 20 years experience on big sites.
I told him this and also told him that there are no recognised qualifications in my trade. He told me that there are nvq qualifications in paving.
I know that my younger brother has one but he got his through working with me and my Dad and having an assessor come out every so often. No collage work involved. I thought that the course was stopped because not enough people signed up and was poorly run.
Tony couldn't be more right when it comes to gaining experience with a good paver.
It can be a hard trade to get in to if you don't know any.

It seems there's no courses in Northern Ireland world skills do not do the training I require. I'm a site man mainly heavy machinery driver have all my cards and at the moment I do a lot of printed concrete which is keeping us busy, however I'm finding that there still is some area for block paving hence wanted to get myself trained up an a couple of my boys I have done plenty of paving over the years as I have a public body contract that we do occasional block paving for. But I wanted the certificate for the paving as its the only one we don't have currently. I found a course in England so it's looking like I'm away for a week to train there... The Mrs won't be happy but lol Aww well
