Hi all,

I am looking to use half battered large kerbs blocks to retaing a gravel driveway (e.g. Marshalls KLs).

Just a quick couple of questions if i may:

1. Are they laid butt jointed?
2. If so, what is the natural radius when using the radial blocks to achieve a 90' bend (as opposed to using an external angle block)?
3. Can radial blocks be used to create an internal and external angle?
4. Any manufacturer considered best in terms of quality?
5. Best brand to colour match with bog standard red engineering brick?

1 - no: mortar jointed or close-jointed is preferred but, because they are a tumbled block, they are sometime slaid butt-jointed, even though they shouldn't be.

2 - Natural radius? Do you mean the minimum radius without creating overly wide (>5mm) joints between adjacent kerbs?

3 - depends on the brand. Some clever kerbs are 'reversible and can be used to for internal or extrnal, but most are just external.

4 - The usual suspects all thend to be very good. Choose based on colour, form and texture.

5 - there is no such thing as abog standard red eng brick. The red eng brick from, say, Lancashire is not the same red as an eng brick from, say, suffolk.

ALL concrete blocks will fade. If colour is important, look at using one of the clay kerb units instead. They don't fade. Ever.

Tony, many thanks for the above, and apologies for the delayed reply. However, i have discounted the use of block paving kerbs for the driveway, as i have a 200mm drop to contend with so i think i'll be putting in a small retaining wall to deal with it instead.
