I am currently laying 37sqm block paving to the rear of my property. The paving will only be subject to normal foot fall, rather than vehicles etc. It will have 100mm MOT type 1 sub base, 50mm sharp sand and 50mm blocks.

I have thus far laid a heavy duty membrane between the soil and the MOT sub base. Am I also advised to lay a heavy duty membrane between the MOT sub base and 50mm sharp sand?

Thank you in advance for your expert comments.

no the membrane is only required to prevent the intermixing of the sub soil or clay and the MOT type 1 yet still permits water to flow freely

when you say heavy duty membrane you do mean a permeable one dont you?

DPM is totally unsuitable for this type of application if that is what you have used

you need terram or multitrack non woven fabric between subbase and subgrade

cheers LLL

and yes just the one :)

Yes, it's permeable.

Thank you.
