Hello. I have just had planning permission to create a caravan site in my field for 30 vans and want to put in a road (400m x 30m) and hard standings (x 30). Does anyone have any advise / experience on creating the road from tarmac road planings alone.... no crushed brick (6f2) or type 1 crusher run. Road planing are much cheaper though can they give a sufficient sub structure? if so what depth do i need?
I would also really appreciate the contact details for any 6f2 and tarmac planing suppliers near Selby (in between York and Leeds)

we had a request like this some years ago from a farmer needing a large carpark for his farm shop
i put him in touch with our skip man and the skip man ran about 20 8 wheelers of hardcore up to him FOC

so really you need a local waste disposal firm who need to get rid of planings or hardcore,and a machine and a sit on roller to level it

planings in this area are sold out at£16+vat a ton, quarrys cant get enough of them to sell, any road job they got to bidding for them,i use them alot on harstandings they work well MSH

Depending on ground conditions you are best off excavating road down to 300-400mm starting with oversize stone first then your plannings. There are a few firms rd Leeds that will hold recycled asphalt. You used to be able to get them free if you were local and had easy space for them to tip now they're a commodity. Concrete will be better for your pitches though. I'll dig some numbers out tomorrow we do a lot of work in holbeck in Leeds and have ventured as far as Tadcaster nice part the world.

You could try your local authority, ask them who wil be doing resurfacing works for 16/17 and approach them, less carbon footprint using them locally, you could also consider base course with a micro asphalt surface course, more expensive but far better quality than planings. Try Colas

That's bloody expensive! I can buy virgin 803 roadstone much cheaper than that!

They won't be interested, it's not their remit. It'll be the planing contractor you need to speak to. All about being in the right place at the right time.

Plannings will be ok for a good amount of time but with the constant wheel turning you will need to keep a few ton aside to keep topping up holes/low spots
Concrete would be best but a lot of money
