Hello. I’m new to this forum so please forgive me if I’m in the wrong place asking the wrong question.

I recently had my driveway lock blocked – 225 square metres of the stuff. Happy enough with the job.

Part of my driveway is on a bit of a slope and here in Shetland off the north coast of Scotland, we experience a lot of the wet stuff.

After the first heavy downpour as I expected, the kiln dried sand poured out of the joints and now lies in furrows on my drive.

I’ve read up and completely understand the need for sealer for joint stabilisation; however, it seems to be a costly and 2/3/4 yearly process. Resiblock prices had me sitting down sipping a cup of tea for 2 hours!!!

My question is this - can I use a dry concrete mix with a little colour pigment added, and just brush that in? Sorry if this has you lock block experts balking and tutting, so please forgive my stupidity. I’ve used that technique on my patio for donkeys, and is a very easy clean method of joint filling.

I understand I may lose a bit of flexibility in my drive, however, the old drive and sub-base had been driven on for 25 years, so I wasn’t expecting much movement.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Jonny
