>>>charging 50 just for sand and blocks what chance has he got
exactly, I have it most evenings when I am quoting, "the other guy was £1,500 - £2,000 cheaper than you", I ask the customer for his phone number so I can use him too
yeah they are cheaper but only lifting the existing flags and laying the paving on what ever sub base is already there, I could lay paving for £ 40 if that's all I was doing
you try digging off 250mm to the total driveway area and carting away, tip 10 - 15 ton of type 1 MOT in its place and try and charge £40 m2

This is a perennial discussion on here and relates to where you live in the country. Personally I can install a high quality driveway using standard blocks for between £40 and £45 m2 including base prep. As long as it's over 45m2 I'll make a very tidy profit but steps drainage and kerbs are all extras and I'm one of the more expensive pavers around here.

Don't worry about what anybody else is charging. You just stick to your price that you can work to and are happy with and quality work will always win you jobs in the end.
