Hello guys. Its been a while since I posted.
Had a phone call at the weekend from a client we do a lot of work for. There was a company on his estate offering to pressure wash block drives and then cement sealing them. He watched them do a neighbours drive and after it was washed they mixed a bag of blue circle cement with water and spread over his driveway OMG !!! He asked me if it was a good idea as they priced him 300 quid for his 150m2 drive. I said 'ffs say no'. They are telling homeowners that it is the new way of doing it and they will never get weeds again. I had a ride around and they had done at least 2 drives and posted leaflets everywhere. Check out the website of dc drives. . They bragg that they are the only company in the uk cement sealing
They must have zero knowledge of this industry or are just scamming people. I am waiting for the phone calls from the homeowners wanting me to repair the cement stained drives !!

It's a scam that's been around approximately 24 hours less than block paving. Some eejits fail to understand that the sand doesn't need a binder and so hit upon the revolutionary idea of adding cement.
Saw a driveway done in the next village to me about 20 years ago. They were dirty-red Plasmor Widnes blocks, so it might be argued that the bright white cement was actually an improvement. The gang responsible were also offering paint-it-on blacktop overlays. They were actually a local company, a sort-of wannabe builder gone bad, and they were eventually collared for using red diesel in one of their vans.
Sadly, the only cure is for one of the blighted customers to report them to Trading Standards. What they are doing isn't actually illegal, but if it can be shown that it's detrimental to the integrity of the property, TS can bar them from operating in their jurisdiction.
Get photies and put 'em on your website, Nigel, along with a warning and the reasoning as to why it's a bad idea. Also mention it to the local paper.

they also do roof sealing systems "that allow the roof to breath"
crikey and there was me thinking that is what breathable membrane and tiles did?
I did reverse google image search on all the photies and apart from the one of DC and his van they are all on about 20 other block paving or landscaping sites
either stock photos or robbed but certainly not dc's work
i just checked the roof pictures and they are nicked as well from someone in wolverhampton :laugh:
I am sure DC believes in what he is doing but it has no basis in science
Its a shame because he probably thinks he is doing a good job

i have spoke to a guy jet washing roofs off a tower scaffold recently
I asked him what he was doing and he said "cleaning the tiles"
i said "what about the rain?"
good money in it but a waste of time for the homeowner

When I seen the photo of the guy with his van - first thought was. Pikey !! Roof cleaning, gutters, soffits, painting, pressure washing. Typical pikey trades. Like most of you, I couldn't believe the crap on the website. Is seen them working on a job 2 days ago. 1 man pressure washing the drive, 2 men in van watching Couldn't see any bags of cement knocking about though.
Now I know what to do with those bags of cement that have gotten wet lately. Flog them to the pikeys for 1 pound a bag !

you guys should contact him and tell him how wrong he is. if he genuinely believes he is doing good then he will listen. personally i think he knows he cheating people. i would love to have a chat with him to listen to the reasoning
