Hi, occassional block paver here (Brickie) appreciate a bit of advice. Have a job coming up to install a pedestrian walkway about 36 meters long by 1200 wide along the front of a glass fronted commercial building.
Blocks will be Acheston And Glover 200mmx150mm, layed in strecher bond.
Should I lay the blocks running parallel to the building or at right angles? Which will look better to the eye?
The blocks will butt up to a splayed paving unit on the inside and on the outside there will be a concrete kerb.
Just a bit worried because of the length how long uninterrupted joints will look if i lay parallel.

I would check if you have two size of these blocks

If only the one size I would go for half bond .they will fit either way its pure choice or spec unless its not a straight run?

Run edge courses parallel to kerb and building, but lay the body blocks running transversely.

Laying longitudinally (parallel) emphasises the length of such a long, narrow path and would make it seem narrower than it actually is (optical illusion) whereas transverse half-bond will foreshorten the path, making it seem wider and therefore safer to pedestrians.

also if you lay them perpendicular to the building,any slight variations in width will be covered
even a 10 mm kink would look cat malogan on a path over a 100 foot long
if you go crossways it would never notice
not that there should be a 10mm kink anywhere but in the real world stuff happens

Thanks lads, yeah was having visions of blocks snaking there way down the run.
Will lay them at right angle to building.
