Dave is a forum member but not a contractor, I was asked if I would post the photo's as he was having a bit of trouble sorting them out

Thanks for posting the Pictures Mick, any one reading this thread 'It wasn't me who done the drive' ! Shame that there is not any contractors (from the Brew Cabin)on the south coast you would clean up!!

Looks great but I have two points,
Buy a decent camera you've screwed my eyes up
Doing the driveway before you re-plastered the house is going to bite you on the arse it's a messy job and plaster butting onto paving isn't a neat finish although you could remove a few courses and then replace it once it's done but you will need to cut it to fit.

I re sized Dave's photos to 640 x 480 and yeah I do agree some of the detailing of the driveway is lost including the name of the contractor who installed this driveway
in the UK we install a bell render bead 2 courses above ground level, I did see the bare block work and thought it was an overall cost issue and the walls are to be rendered at a later date hence why the driveway has been installed first
it is messy doing the rendering last but if you find a decent plasterer and cover up the driveway with visqueen sheeting with plywood boards on top you might have half a chance

aye i like that detailing but the block goes all the way to the ground on the extension so it'll need covered. I really want to persuade a client to do a circular drive like that they look great but most i do don't have the width to take it.

I totally agree with all comments; the rendering should have been completed first. The weather (rain)hindered the date programmed in for the rendering and also good tradesman down this neck of the woods are few and far between.I got the contractor who completed the drive to leave an adequate gap between the border and the house (not ideal I know) and I will buy what ever is necessary to cover the drive .
Not to bore you too much but a lot are rip off merchants charging fortunes for sub standard work. The population are mostly middle class pensioners (coffin dodgers with a few spare coppers) or affulent second home owners from the smoke. During the internal works I recommended a chippy to an elderly neighbour who wanted her loft boarded out, he left my site for 1 day. When he returned I heard him having a chuckle with his mate boasting that he charged her £800 for labour + materials!! I waited until the end of the week and knocked him for £650 and took the money round to the lady and asked him politely not to return....
Sorry to bang on, Mr LLL I am now going to use the plasterer who completed the internal works, I have followed your advise and he is very experienced at both (old school, started plastering when he was 14 now 50: never advertises and is always busy). His normal mix is 6-1 (5 plastering sand/1 cement/1 lime and Feb mix) does this sound o.k? I will get him to change it if you advise otherwise.

That mix is spot on but you may omit the feb I would say
