Looking for some advice if possible here from others.

I may have a stone sett driveway to lay if I choose that as my desired finish.
I will be using new setts, 200x100x50, and will either be sawn or sawn and tumbled. They will be either York or something similar to the marshalls range.
Its a residential drive of 50m2, I am undecided on which laying method to go for, i.e rigid or flexible.

If rigid, I would construct with 10mm joints and use a polymeric resin for the jointing.
What are most peoples opinions of the aesthetics of the rigid construction with joints vs a flexible construction laid tight?
Also, I have looked on the site about the rigid construction, but the bedding design i.e 100mm lean mix concrete is referring to the reclaimed type sett, due to the inconsistency in depth of the setts.
Would a 30-50mm bed of 4:1 grit sand cement on a 200mm type 1 sub base be more appropriate?

Thanks in advance.

If you are using natural stone you may face some difficulties going for the flexible laid tight method. The dimensional tolerances of the setts would make it very difficult to lay tight together, especially with the tumbled where you can expect up to 5mm tolerance

I thought setts had to be laid rigid?

dempsey and cookie have done some fabulous jobs with new setts in rigid construction

Stone = rigid construction for me.

We recently relaid this limestone sett drive it was laid rigid with 2mm spacers by previous contractor and kds for joints.

After laid on 4/1 sharp/cement plus cement slurry and jointed with 4/1 sharp/cem1 plus sbr slurry. (10mm joints)

Brilliant guys, thanks for the advice.
I notice that some suppliers call them, 'natural stone block paving', and have images of them laid tight, unless im getting confused between two different products?
I will opt for a rigid construction, I personally think the joints compliment the drive and give it a sharper appearance.

Dempsey, got to say, that work is some of the finest! Beautiful, love the York!
Can I ask about your bedding mix, looks fairly dry, would that be correct? I just had it in my head I would have had it wetter than that, like a stiff mortar. Any thoughts
Also, what depth bedding do you use if you don't mind me asking?!

Thanks again.

Semi dry bedding mix, pour cement slurry and lay setts. Wet down at middle and end of the day's laying.

I set out to lay on 75mm thick bed.

150mm crushed stone sub base.

Thanks again.

What do you find is the the best option for pouring the sbr/cement slurry?, as I take it this has to be done a row at a time. Watering can?
I again was thinking I may have to slurry the back of the setts individually with a brush.

Cheers
