Whats the guidelines for laying blocks when some inclement weather is due. Should the areas be covered to protect from rain etc until its totally finished, wachered etc. should sand that's not had blocks laid on be covered. Should you only screed off enough area for what you can lay that day or whilst weather is dry?

I ask because I am laying my drive during the evenings after work over a number of nights and rain is forecast on and off for the next week or so. Should I wait until better weather is forecast.

Thanks

David

Hi David normal rain shouldn't be an issue for causing problems with your sand before and aftyer laying but very heavy rain is. Personally though I wouldn't bother trying to keep anything dry I'd just screed out what I could do each day and not worry about it saturating. If you do the cuts as you go you could wacker it each day but your neighbours will hate you if you start one up at 8pm. Doing the cuts at the end and compacting it will be the quickest way and as long as the sand isn't totally soaked it'll compact just fine. If the sand is soaked then leave it a day and then compact it.
