Some paving guys recently laid new block paving on my drive but I discovered that it was laid too high - the original gap of 150mm between ground to dpc around my bay window was reduced to 0mm. After looking at this website I got my builder's new guy (original one wouldn't return - no surprise!) to dig channel around bay window. He's cemented in blocks cut in half turned on their side to form the edge of the paving. However, I thought that as they are at the edge of the channel below they would be cemented to each other to stop the sand being washed away. He says it's ok even though the cement inside the channel does not rise to the top of the blocks.
So how should it be?

Sounds like they have just gone straight over the top of your old drive.alioli wrote:Some paving guys recently laid new block paving on my drive but I discovered that it was laid too high - the original gap of 150mm between ground to dpc around my bay window was reduced to 0mm. Ideally the drive should come out and be done properly.
Have a read here for possible workarounds

It sounds to me that, having allowed the drive to be laid improperly by the first eejit, the "builder" has sent some other poor sod around to bodge it up rather than to do the job as it should be done. How can that be right?
If they've got this right, there shuylkd eb a clear 150mm between DPC and the base of the channel formed by the re-loacted blocks, and that channel should be not less than 150mm wide. I can't figure out how that edge has then been retained, as there should, in theory, be a 150mm drop between [aving and base of channel, which could not be formed using blocks cut in half.
You should be looking at something like one of the images linked to by Carberry above. Does it look anything like one of those? Is there any way you could get a photie?
