Hi,
We have recently completed a block paved driveway.
Our customer has brought our attention to the fact that there are marks on a large area of the blocks
We generally sweep the driveway thoroughly and clean the wacker before compaction, make several passes with the wacker, apply kiln sand and compact once more.
I have told our client that the marks will disappear over time, which i believe to be correct.
He has tried jet washing an area to no avail.
The blocks seem scuffed rather than scratched.
Is there any way to remove these marks, because he does not seem prepared to wait any period of time.

First mistake wacker plating with no sand under it a shure way to scuff blocks
pressure washing will do no good at all
badly scuff blocks only option is to replace
i would say its you problem

i have wacked several drives with no sand first mark,but maybe o n certain blocks its a no no
sadly its your fault to replace damaged blocks
IME its easier to take all the blocks up

The blocks that we used were standard brindle blocks.

have you tried using another block the same to rub over the scuffed blocks? can work wonders on certain bricks, worth a little try

I've always whacked blocks with a good thick layer of KDS on the surface, always been worried about this kind of 'damage'
How have you got on with the customer?

Rub with another block as said or rub with kds and block of wood etc had to do it when machine tracks have scuffed blocks

Hi,
The customer is not happy at all.
We have now contacted Marshalls and Stonemarket and they both say the marks will disappear in a few months, but the customer does not want to have to wait, and does not seem to believe them.
They are quite unreasonable and at the moment owe me for the extras we did on the job.

a photo would help but i have never seen a wacker scuff a drive
it sounds very odd
i can see both points but it dont normally happen

I've seen it happen on Bradstone monoblocks, disappeared after awhile though.

I block paved my mums drive a few years back using Marshalls Clay block pavers. We used a rubber mat to avoid the scuffing and the rubber mat made a right mess of the blocks. They were all covered in black marks, looked rubbish and was in the ma's bad books

But you cant not compact clay blocks without the mat?! so what do you do? Was it neoprene or rubber?

Sounds like block replacement is the only answer. Is it many that are affected?
I hate it when the customer is unreasonable. Really winds me up.

Quite a lot blocks are affected. The whole drive is 140 Sqm.
Maybe 10-20 percent are affected.
I have been told by Marshalls and Stonemarket that the marks will fade within a few months.
I have not asked for payment of the extras bill, and i am quite happy waiting for the payment.
I get the vibe that he is not going to pay for the extras anyway(£1500 approx.)
He is now asking for £1000 back so he can retain this also!
