In the middle of pricing a job at the mo it's 500m2. The fella wants 3 prices Classico with 3 circles, regatta and beta the question I'm asking is how much cheaper on a job this size would your square meterage price be compared to normal. At this time of year on a 50m2 were pricing around £65 m2 for beta.
It's a domestic drive not commercial we have a 7 ton machine and all muck will be taken by 8 wheel muck away lorries.
The best prices we have for the blocks are £19m2 Inc vat regatta/Classico
£16m2 Inc beta
Any info will be much appreciated thanks

£65-75 +vat for standard blocks we use a rent in 5 tonner and grab lorries
roughly £90-100+vat for tegula types
but if it is a big area i would expect the price to come down at least 15% per metre
difficult to compare nationwide as people have different tipping costs and stone etc varies wildly

that is a heck of a private drive. have you worked for the client before, or do you know anyone who has? because it would be a hell of knock to take. can you put plenty of blokes on it, to take advantage of kerb mix being delivered in qty and deal direct with manufactures to get full load prices on blocks, failing that I can't see any reason why the price should come down at all. but then i'm only a diy'er

65 quid for beta is a competitive price in essex . i wouldnt bother going any lower . if youve been reccomended for the job you should get it . lots of people in essex charging more than that.

We havent been recommended he has seen one of boards on a job
We don't know him from Adam so maybe well just stick to our going rate and keep our fingers crossed it would be a nice job to get in a real good location on a real busy road.
At the same time would be a he'll of a knock to take.

An area of that size everything will be a lot cheaper to buy and you'll be able to throw the body of it down in no time so it would have thought that even if you were to take £5 off it you'd still be making a tidy profit. 4/5 men should knock out 100m2+ a day easily as long as you have the block cart and decent screeding gear and access. Personally I'd go competative on pricing and make sure everything was super organised if I got the job and also beat all the suppliers down on their prices you've a right to do so because of how much you'll need. I'd also expect staged payments of 30 30 30 and 10% upon completion to minimise risk. The other option I'd look into is subbing to a machine lay firm. You do all the groundworks screeding and cutting you just need the machine and driver you have it laid and cut in 2 days and if you charge hand laying rates you'll also have a good bit more cash in the bank to.

I think the machine lay is not a good option with regards to the regatta patterns, sizes and circles? (Correct me if im wrong), I would try and avoid the 4 block patern regatta as I found the precast spacers on the medium block slightly conflicted with the large jumper and needed constant correction with a mallet, I'd price accordingly if they like and have seen your work thats the price!

Do they even stack regatta or beta in machine lay format? Can't see many machine lay firms would be interested in anything less than 1000sqm, I would stick to your present rate and insist on stage payments.
