Hi. I've got some good advice from you all regarding getting qutoes for my driveway so thanks for that.

Another query has come up - some of the quotes have come back stating installation of a soakaway and some haven't.

The fall of the front garden is towards the house and design of the drive incorporates a 600mm gravel border at the front of the house and down one side. The total area is 71 square metres.

Some of the contractors say that the gravel edge is all that's required to take the rainwater, whereas, others have included acco drain and soakaway.

I know it's difficult for any of you to comment without seeing the site (I don't have a pic at present) but if the proposed driveway is the impermeable type should it be standard procedure to install the soakaway?

Hope I'm making sense and someone can help.

Thanks,
Stuart. :)

put my neck on the line and i would think no one would add a soakaway without the need for one as it would make them more expensive. i'd assume its needed.

If there is a big enough 'Rain Garden' at the foot of the proposed driveway then a s/away isn't required.

Trouble is....if you price a s/away in on the job to do a "belt & braces job" chances are you won't get it as you're too expensive.
