Although rock salt is the usual tactic, as you've said, care is required because *some* rock salts can adversely affect the colouring of *some* concrete pavings.
To be fair, well-made CBPs are usually OK as long as the rock salt is kept to a minimum, but wet-cast flagstones seem to be more at risk, probably due to their porosity.
A hot shovel or floor scraper is best. have a little gas ring burning to keep a choice of shovels/scrapers nicely heated, as you would for blacktop laying, and you get 2-3 minutes working time before they cool down.

We use an old tractor tire or rubber track trapped in 4 in 1 bucket on jcb, but for hand scraping the curved hand held snow ploughs work really well or the bigger aluminium grain/snow shovels are better than normal shovels.
