Hi

I've followed recent discussions regarding a concrete base and I believe I understand the issues.

I have a 3.2 metre wide drive and it is concrete except for a 40cm strip up the middle, which is soil. I have tried to get the concrete up but it is 20cm and I have given up after making little in progress.

I see from related threads that drilling holes in the concrete is one possible option to deal with the drainage and I want to know if my 40cm non-concrete strip is an acceptable alternative (filled with a suitable subbase material) and would it stop the sand from becoming too waterlogged?

Alternatively, I might go for the dry mix method discussed in another thread.

Thanks.

a digger with a pecker will have that lot up in no time, the other examples are extreme work arounds gnasher
you are better off doing it right and hooking the lot out
you could always hire a mini crusher and re use the concrete as type 1

That would have probably been my best option but I think I've come too far now. I've got the linear drain in place at the bottom of the drive plus all the edging stones. The drive is 3m x 14m so thats 28m of edging concreted in.

Looking at other posts there does appear to be viable alternatives even if they are strictly not best practice. So my original question still stands.

Would it be better to concrete the centre strip and go for a rigid fix as described by Mickg in the similar post?
