Laying an edging?

Hi guys have read thorugh various methods including the one on the main site.

Basically im looking to lay 25ft of linear edging to my existing patio, 5ft being a curved part.

Do i simply lay the edging (which are in the form of bricks but not completely straight edges) on sand? or do i add a small layer of mortar underneath each brick?

Also i have weed membrane, is it worth using this under the edging???

Any help is much appreciated
