HI guys,

My block paving seems to have sunk where the car runs up and down it, I assume this is due to the sub-base compacting and sinking, is it just a case of pulling up the pavers on this part dig down to the sub base and lay a bit more down, whacker it, resand it and whacker again, and then relay the bricks again and whacker it all ??
Is this the best way ?

Cheers

i assume there wasnt any geotextile used. if it were me i would take it up where its tracked in low and with a plastering trowel add more sharp sand to the level you want and put them back, try and leave it a few mm higher than the final desired level and then compact. it'll come out at the right level but no assurance it wont happen again later.

Hi gaz
is S-o-T stoke on trent?
it depends if it is localised or the whole sub base has failed
If it is localised a small area can be taken up ,resanded and rewacked
if its the whole thing then it must be re done

Yes S-O-T is stoke on trent, the drive has not sunk that deep, you can tell more when it rains and the water starts to gather, or if you get down low and look at the level across the drive, all the other parts that do not take any load i.e the parts where the cars do not run across are fine, I think I will just lift the sunken parts, lift the sand, level the sub-base, re-sand and re-lay and see how that goes.
On another note, when using the sealing sand is it possible to mix it with one part cement, everytime I have ressanded in the past it just runs out when it rains especially on the slope, I have used the block sealer which to be honest is pants especially for how much it is ?

Cheers

Don't even think of putting cement with the kiln dry sand, you will end up with a mess and cement stains every wear
Instarmac now make a stabilised sand for use in block paving, the rep pops in hear now and again MSH :)

Okay, so stay away from mixing cement with the sand, ok taken onboard.

TBH gaz,you would be better off hooking the lot up and resanding and rewacking the lot
trying to patch localised areas is a nightmare to get right
if you do do patches try and leave the blocks 3-4 mm proud before your final wack, this allows for the last compaction
all the best
