Hello
I have a large flat brick paved driveway which needs breaking up with vegetation. I want to take up a small area (4sq m)and replace with soil and plants but am unsure how to start this. Is it an easy task which can be done by an amateur, or does this require a builder? Can the layers below the bricks be dug out with a shovel or do they need a drill?

Is it simply a matter of digging down a foot or so and placing soil down or is it more complex?

Any guidance or reference to similar posts will be appreciated!

Thanks,
David

Pretty much as you say David!

Couple hours of hard graft and all will be well - you can then sit back with a pint and admire your efforts :)

you'll need to retain the open edge that you expose with haunched concrete or the paving will move.
