I am thinking of having my front garden block paved. The garden is about 85sqm. the job would be to remove several trees dig everything out and lay the pavers. It is in the Belfast area and I am just trying to get a fair price. Would anyone know what I should expect to pay for this work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi LFC depending on site conditions 85m of block paving will cost approx £5000 inc vat supply and lay. This price allows for a mid range block and base excavation and prep aswell. Disposal of the tree's will probably cost more than their removal and stump grinding and removal is around £45 a stump depending on size. Get a few quotes from reputable contractors maybe try Hardscapes he works for me occasionally and is very good. Don't go down the road of the cheapest quote and get everything in writing this town is crawling with Travellers and fly by nights right now since the economy down south crashed.

Where is the best place to find approved pavers in your area and how do you spot the cowboys.

Cowboys will quote you on the spot in cash there will be nothing in writing no headed stationary and will use only mobile numbers no landline and the thick brogue is the most obvious. The van will either be very beaten up or brand new with crome bullbars and expensive looking livery with pictures of paving they claim to have done themselves but has been ripped off someone else's website. They normally don't have uniforms and wear anything from jeans to tracksuits. Tobermore and Acheson and Glover have a list of recommended contractors which is available online.
