Is it best to drill a hole in the middle of a block paving brick or at the point where block paving bricks meet? Or does it not matter?
Need to be able to put the drop bolt down for the gate. Or should something else be done to prevent wear/tear on bricks? Though the drop bolt is not actively used very often.
Any advice as usual appreciated.

i'd always do it in the middle of a brick but it depends where your drop down bolt falls when gate closed or open at 90 degress does it not?

to do a proper job you need a piece of metal tube about 300mm long what is just larger than the drop down bolt diameter and to concrete this tube in position then cut the paving block round this, if it falls on a joint then its easier for cutting but even if it falls in the middle of a block all you have to do is cut the block in half and then cut the notch to suit
or better still if your marking is very accurate you could bore a hole in the block so it can slide down over the tube.

Well yes, but I figured I could adjust by a degree or two.

Ah, a bit too late to do that as they forgot to do that and the blocks have been laid now. ??? So in a position of wondering how to do a best job as possible, at least it's not used too often!

You can drill an hole a bit larger than the tube, then hold it in with some resin, or grout. EC40 or similar, . Tape the top and bottom of the tube to stop the mix filling the tube.
