Does the sub-base (100mm) need to be all type 1 solids? Or can it be other solids and topped of with type 1? ??? I suspect I know the answer to this but thought I'd best make sure! Thanks.

why would you introduce inferior materials into the subbase jimbob?
if you had a 300mm void to fill you could use say 100mm of rocks or clean small hardcore ,compacted then 100mm of type 1 compacted ,then a fianl 100mm of type 1 compacted
dont forget jimbob type 1 is a standard rather than a be all and end all
if bricks are crushed 35=fines then they are type 1 too
