Hi,
We have a paved forecourt which has a big hole in it! We have been told by neighbours that there is an old well under the ground. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem so that the paving doesn't sink again?

thanks,

Anne

If there is an old well, it will need to be capped, which normally involves covering the opening with a steel support system, such as Holorib, and then covering it with 200mm of concrete.

This is not a job for a DIYer. You really need an experienced civil engineer to take a look for you.

i note with interest that the OP lives on jersey, would an island have wells?
would they not be contaminated by seawater?
anyway as tony says capping wells is not a diy job
If you look at pictures 18-20 on my website you will see the dangers and problems involved in old wells
cheers LLL
