This is my first post to your brilliant site so please be gentle!

Problem:
New installation of metal bifold doors to patio means the construction of two steps to ground level.
The upper step would breach the airbricks ventilating the floor space within the house (underfloor heating). Is there any way of constructing the step to avoid the problem, or do I have to settle for one uncomfortably low step?

have a duct and airbrick in the step
therefore maintaining the airflow

incorporate air bricks within the riser of the new step and duct it to the existing air brick on the back of the house using 2 100mm underground drainage pipes side by side to give you an area of 200mm x 100mm if your using a 229mm x 150mm 9" x 6") air brick

or you can purchase a Wall Cavity Sleeve to suit a 229mm x 75mm (9" x 3") air brick

doh! 9 inches is indeed 228.6mm

for years i have been laying bricks and architects specify a 225 wall as 9 "

i hate those plastic ducts with a passion and would recommend the terracotta ones anyday
teracotta airbricks

1-0 to you mickg

i'm with Tony on his,

dads previous site we built 5 x 4 bed houses and each house had 6 of the plastic telescopic snorkle vents they were a right pain, ended up breaking a lot of them or venting frustration on them ;-) . get the terra-cotta ones.
