Setts depth for driveway?

Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

I have a client wanting a small driveway laid in stone setts of some sort.

Here in northern ireland our suppliers are really limited and so getting anything other than the usual light grey granite 4'' cubes can prove difficult.

I can easily get my hands on sand stone setts, which the client would prefer but they are only 50mm thick. They would obviously be laid rigid on 100mm of 4:1 screed

Would a 50mm setts be suitable for a drive given that they are small units 100mm x 100mm.

cheers

Thanks cookie,

I was planning on either 100mm leanmix or 150mm type 1 sub base then 80-100mm of 4:1 bedding.

Are you saying a 60mm bedding course would be better?

Cheers.

Hi mate, if you're looking for more choice and sizes of granite or sandstone you should give Freddy Gibson in Portglenone a call. He can make the paving to your spec as long as he has enough stone. 02825 821 976. If you do call him then keep him on track because he'll talk the leg off you.

I have a list of people to call over the next few days and he is one of the them. Thanks a lot for that contact.

They are just keen to use something different to the usual granite cubes. A random length sett or even a 200-100 unit would do and ideally not granite. The 200x100mm granite will be a back-up and should be easier to get i think.

They actually were keen on the porphoroy that is being laid in holywood and so went to hardscape and came out with tails firmly between their legs.

Hardscape are only here for the Peace 3 EU money and all the urban regeneration projects in the bad areas. They've no interest in private stuff. CED in Omagh are the same but more agreeable to shifting gear. CED, Mcmonagles and Gibson are the only suppliers left these days, the rest of them buy off these guys and sell on.
