Hi, new to site, which is great. I need some recommendations, I have been renovating my father's 3 year old block paving, the area is susceptible to weeds and moss over the year and I have been laying a sand/cement mix over the joints between the block paving. To clarify I fill the joint gaps with dried kiln sand then put the sand/cement mix over. The appearance is that the bottom half of the V groove formed when two pavers meet is covered. I understand this is not the norm, I wanted to minimize the maintenance.

The area I have an issue with the area the car tyres cover on the driveway, after a couple of weeks the sand/cement mix will loosen and come away, in one piece of the V groove. Does this mean this will always happen or the paving job wasn't done correctly in the first place? I am suspecting it hasn't as I have had to re-level some areas where the paving has dipped.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could use on the driveway or leave with the kiln sand?
Thanks,
John

putting sand/cement in the v-grove is totally pointless ,it is no use at all, will never stay in place
kiln dry sand is all you need, weeds don't grow from bottom up through the the blocks they are seeds from birds and in the air,
if laid correctly with compacted KDS you should have no maintenance ,
The problem with the car tyre pulling the sand-cement out has nothing to do with the job being done correctly as it should not be done at al

Three important points to note:
there is NO cement used: None, nil, zero, zilch, nada, neamhní, nowt.
the sand used is specially selected
the surface must be dry
Building sand, playpit sand, beach or river sand, grit, coarse, bedding, soft and plastering sands are not normally suitable. The sand to be used consists of grains that fall within an upper and lower size range, to ensure maximum interlock between grains.

totally agree with MSH
weeds in block paving result from poor maintenance
I.E. as soon as a weed germinates in the crack then pull it out or zap it with round up or whatever
also worth just sweeping off the paving every week or so
