Not realy, id be on the phone to the supplier! Did he describe it as mot type1? If so he is miss-selling it, proper stuff doesnt have wood, soil, plastic etc it is properly regulated (very rarely the odd bit of crap). Hes just selling crushed shi*e!
I buy recycled and its always been ok...

as DN said, you've been sold Recycled sh*te not Recycled MOT1. you may forgive the odd small piece of wood or plastic getting through the crushing & screening, but the soil should have been scalped off first.

been on the phone to them this morning, the guy i spoke to says that this stuff they have delivered is certified mot 1 and they add the soil to help it bind! sounds like bollocks to me! after a much heated debate he has agreed to come and take the stuff away but i have no chance of getting back the £175 i paid for it only yesterday!

It will cost u more than £175 to take it away yourself.I know its not the point,us guys in the trade have to deal with inept suppliers now and then.

we only use virgin quarried aggregates so much shit in crusher run, never compacts like proper stuff.
company near us does rough crusher run £100 for 20 tons, not sure what crusher or screens they are using but it is full of wood, plastic, dpm, half bricks, concrete and never enough fines to get a good tight level compacted area.
we always come up in fresh type 1 then a load of 20mm to dust for final grading and compaction.
i'd get on trading standards if they are describing it as type 1 as specified in highway spec 800 series then they have clearly mis sold it, no way should it have soil in it. and tell them you are going to do that, as they finish shifting it of course.

i did a job for a head honcho at a well know builders merchants once. New gravel driveway. He supplied everything as and when required.
Now, when it came to the 20mm shingle, it got tipped out of the truck, and i set about spreading it with the bobcat. It was only after i had scooped and spread every last bit, that i discovered it to be full of nails/screws/glass and tile. couldn't see it in the gravel until after i had finished.
the driver had brought recycled stuff and tried to fob it off, keeping the profits for himself. he was sacked, and the supplier (it came from the supplier to the builders merchants) sent in a jcb and three blokes to scrape up and remove all the offending gravel and supply new.
the same should happen in this case!

The place i bought it from is a place called inglewoods in parbold, wigan,
I think because i have asked the difference between recycled and new when i phoned up they have just seen me coming! and assumed they could get away with giving me any old shit without me noticing but what they gave me was mostly soil!
its scary to think how many times they have got away with this!

probably your supplier is taking advantage of the term 'subbase', as many customers will believe it complies to MOT Type 1 Subbase, but as long as a supplier leaves the spec details off he can sell what he likes.
as well as the SHW 800 compliance, you can always ask for documentation to prove they comply with the WRAP Quality Protocol.

Well its not nice being had so if you paid by card inform your card company or if you paid by cash then go down and speak to them face to face when they are nice and busy and finally report them to your local trading standards
I think you have made the right choice and got rid of the crap and im sure the finished job knowimg its been done right will be much better and good on you for that.
