Hi all, first of all i would like to say happy new year and well done Tony for a first class web site.Have spent hours reading the site to see if i am able to take on my driveway/path.Luck had it the wife said i was.

So i have made a start, driveway is an L-shape,across the front of a double garage and down the right hand side, total area of around 60m2 and a small curving path from front gate to frontdoor.

I have dug out the path to 200mm,layed edge courses on semi-dry concrete bed, haunched and infilled with 100mm of DTp1.

The next stage is the 60m2 of drive which is crazy paved :( .

Have any of you got an idea of what it might cost me for someone to come along with a digger and dig out the crazypaving and so called hardcore to 200mm and then remove from site with a grab lorry,as i am feeling lazy :p .

I live in the Canterbury area in kent and any help/tips/getting out of sh*t which may be/will be needed in the near future in blockpaving my new year project will be greatlfully recived.

Many thanks Slim Jim

about 12 m3 of outcomings looking like between 25-30 tons of stuff.

so 2 grabs at £300 looking at £1000 all in.

Thanks GB for the reply, thats about what i was thinking, but to my luck one of my workmates knows someone with a digger & grab lorry. Will dig out & grab x2 for £450,all for the Queens finest pound notes.

I had a bit of a dig in the snow yesterday :( to see what was under the crazypaving in the way of hardcore/sub base. The main area to the front of garage seems to be made up of any old crap & around the side it seems that the crazypaving sits on about 100mm or so of sharp sand then the old crap.

I was wondering is it best for Mr Digger to remove all the old crap from the front of the garage or can he just remove an amount and i top up with DTp1 and round the side, remove just the paving and save the sharp sand for screeding and top up the old crap with DTp1.The old crap is made up of 1/4 to 1/2 brick bits, bits of concrete, stone etc.

Any advice from you pros would to great.

Thanks Jim.

Thanks Jim

The way forward is dig all the shit out, good bad or indiferent,
replace with compacted type1,you know there will be a good base with no worries afterwards, at that price snap his hand off......... i dunno where will find pound notes from at the mo...maybe 20's or 50's.............. :D

Hi again, the digger man has been to have a look & said can do it in one day @ £170 for the digger & £140 per grab for the hardcore.13 ton lorry

Bargin i know but should i be worried at that price? Only if he turns up towing his horse box? No services for him to hit.
