hi, looking to hire a few things to do the block paving.
probably need them monday to friday so 5 days.
whats the best way to cut the 60mm blocks, is it a manual block paving brick cutter , or a stihl saw? was maybe thinking of getting both in case there are some awkward cuts (never done it before), many thanks, al

how much will it cost for-
1) a petrol wacker plate
2) a block paving brick splitter
3) a stihl saw

yes ive read the website tony - very informative - great site, i didnt think people would mind me asking the questions.
its my first attempt and im just asking for peace of mind.

i thought the idea of a forum was to ask questions and help people out. i have no one at all to ask or talk to about this thats why im here for help.

Also when getting quotes from hire companies knock them down.
I hired a rotivator today and the guy quoted £60 for the day and I said "Thank you but I have already been quoted £41" and he said without pausing for breath "I'll beat that"
Now my first instinct was to say "You cheeky b******
But never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth I said "Why thank you!
So barter!! That seems to be perfectly acceptable in these hard times.

i was looking for genuine advice and reassurance etc thats all, as i said i have no one to ask.

i regularly give friendly advice regarding my trade (even though all the info is available - some people just want to ask the experts for reassurance and confidence) CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?
but it seems to be too much trouble for some people.

why have a forum if you cant ask a question??? kind of defeats the object for me.
a vast majority of peoples posts/questions are in the main website, i dont get this "have you checked the website first"
if you cant be arsed to give a friendly reply then dont answer the question.

amg15, I didn't make any comment about you, or your posting. My reply was to Ace and was a general point. You've said I have no time to help but I think that most of the BC regulars and those who come here with specific and uncommon issues would disagree.

But now you've had a pop, you can have both barrels.

By posting multiple threads with questions which are all covered by the main site you are in effect saying, "I can't be bothered to properly read all that stuff so you self-employed people can take your time to do it for me."

In one thread you asked about discounts and playing one supplier off against another. These are people in our trade. Yes, they're our suppliers, but we form relationships to get trade reductions that help us make a living.

In another thread you asked about a membrane. The pro's and con's of using geotextiles, when to and when not to, which one to use, etc., etc., are covered in enormous depth on the main website. There is no way you would have asked the question if you'd actually read the site.

In yet another thread you didn't believe the very reliable and continuously used calculators for aggregates on the main site, which can be cross-checked with many other sites, so felt the need to seek consultation on that, too.


So the Gaffer comes along to read ALL the threads on ALL the forums, as he clearly does, and sees one person peppering the forum with multiple questions on a variety of subjects, pretty much all of which is covered in the huge on-line resource that he has painstakingly put together over several years, and understandably gets a bit miffed.

And you then dive in with both feet and have a pop at me! Incredible.

I didn't mean to start any aggro here.
This is a wonderful site and has been immensely helpful to me being a woman in a very male dominated work environment.
It means sometimes I can deal with quotes armed with some semblance of background knowledge and not look like some fluffy bimbo "having a go"!!!

All I was saying was....as LLL has pointed out (and you are right darling, there is nothing wrong with 20 stone of man!) is that I thought the reply was worded a bit strongly.
You can still dismiss someone asking the same thing, by just pointing out politely that the answer to all your questions is found on the web site.....Have a nice day....
