hi again,
ive decided on the blocks to use, plaspave-sorrento-carrara stone.
i need 26m sq of them, had a quote from keyline for 4 packs which covers 29m sq for £582 including vat.(works out at £123.85 per pack plus vat)
(the rest i will save for when i do the front path)
could i ask for discount or play quotes off different builders merchants. i think theyre only available in 3 or 4 local builders merchants.
what sort of discounts do you guys in the trade get please.
any advice is appreciated, just trying to save money.

Most BM's will try to price match each other - but be fair and truthful. They'll know if you are trying it on.
I somehow doubt cash would carry any advantage.

i guessed cash wouldnt be an advantage, realistically though what discount do you think i could get?
£582.00 quoted so far inc vat without asking for a discount.
10% discount would be £523.00, 15% discount is £495.00.
have i got a chance? i know the tradesmen must get massive discounts, what do you get knocked off.

from my experience asking for the "best price" when calling gives the indication that your ringing around and therefore gets exactly that "their best price", their question of cash or account sorts out whether they are going to get payed straight away or not. Does any body else apart from the bm's do them?

this "myth" of the trade getting massive discounts is just that==> a myth
as rich says when we spend around a grand a week they want to keep our custom flowing, that is why we get all the early deliveries
when johnny come lately walks in and starts talking about discount for a one off job, they are less receptive than they could be
if you do ask have a pen and paper and smile
a smile costs nothing and engenders goodwill

The price is about right, Iv'e just ordered 220m2 of the Sorrento and its costing £18.74 per m2. £1.33 per m2 cheaper than your price. I bought a couple of m2 a few weeks ago an that cost me £21.00 m2, so quantity plays a factor. If you have a friend with a trade account could save yourself 20-30 quid, but after you've bought a couple of thankyou rounds and a kebbab about evens.
