hi, sorry if this has been covered before.
im reading the site and i dont know whether im supposed to use a membrane/visquine??
please advise me.

i am ripping up my tarmac drive, say 220mm deep.
then adding a type 1 sub base, 120mm deep (gonna put 60mm down then wack that, then another 60mm and wack it again.
then 40mm level screed of grit sand, which i will lay the 60mm blocks on - cover with kiln dried sand - then a final pass with the wacker plate.

(the guy at the builders merchants said block pavers use visquine? is this correct, and if so where do i lay it.
i.e under the sub base, or on top of the sub base & lay grit sand on top of it) do i need it?

we would only use a geo textile matting not visqueen. but if your ground is nice and firm you dont really have to. check main site im sure its coverd there.
visqueen is a damp proof membraine used under conrete
so under blocks would trap any water

the ground will be solid when ive finished preparing it, so i wont bother with the geotextile then.

That guy at the Builder's merchant - when they open up again on Tuesday go and kick him in the nuts and tell him he's a pillock.

He's millimetre-depth knowledge of block paving explains why he's stood behind a counter squeezing his spots and the rest of us are out on sites doing real work.
